Savory Texas Breakfast Strata
Savory Texas Breakfast Strata
A hearty, layered breakfast dish from the heart of Texas, combining the flavors of sausage, eggs, cheese, and fresh herbs.
🛒 Ingredients
- 1 pound Italian Sausage
- 1 medium Large Onion
- 1 shredded Cups of Cheddar Cheese
- 1 day-old Bread Loaf
- 6 large Eggs
- 1 tablespoon Chopped Fresh Parsley
- 1 teaspoon Salt
- 1 teaspoon Pepper
- 2 tablespoons Butter, melted
👨🍳 Instructions
- 1
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
- 2
Cut the bread loaf into 1-inch (2.5 cm) cubes and spread in the prepared baking dish.
- 3
Cook the Italian sausage in a large skillet over medium-high heat, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks, until no longer pink, about 5 minutes.
- 4
Add the onion to the skillet and cook until softened and fragrant, about 3 minutes.
- 5
In a separate bowl, beat the eggs and stir in the shredded cheese, chopped parsley, salt, and pepper.
- 6
Pour the egg mixture over the bread cubes in the baking dish, followed by the cooked sausage and onion mixture.
- 7
Dot the top of the strata with the melted butter.
- 8
Bake the strata in the preheated oven for 35-40 minutes, or until puffed and golden brown.
💡 Pro Tips
To prevent the strata from drying out, cover the dish with foil for the first 30 minutes of baking. For a more golden-brown top, remove the foil for the last 5-10 minutes of baking. Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days, or freeze for up to 2 months.
